In Hazara Town, Quetta, a soldier from the Pakistani security forces was reportedly caught sexually abusing a minor. Outraged residents gathered at Brewery Police Station to protest and file a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused, who is alleged to be a Frontier Corps (FC) soldier. The victim's identity and the alleged perpetrator were not revealed.
The protesters highlighted that this incident is not an isolated case, as they previously caught another FC soldier involved in a similar act, which was hushed up. They are demanding zero tolerance for such sexual predation and are calling for the accused to face the full force of the law.
Mistrust in the Frontier Corps has led the protesters to demand that the Quetta Police replace them, along with the removal of FC checkpoints.
Reports indicate that instead of investigating the incident and arresting the accused, the Quetta police arrested the victim's brother, causing additional distress to the family.
Regrettably, the Pakistani forces have faced previous allegations of sexually abusing children. In April of the current year, an FC soldier was accused of assaulting a six-year-old boy in Gwadar. Furthermore, in October 2022, it was revealed that soldiers from the Pakistani forces had been preying on young boys at the FC Boys Public School, an institution funded by the military and established by the Frontier Corps.
Such distressing incidents have been coming to light in Balochistan, particularly in areas under the strict control of the FC, such as Gwadar. Despite protests and social media campaigns by activists to address these heinous crimes, significant action remains lacking.
