The Balochistan Assembly has passed a resolution condemning the violent incidents that occurred following the arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan on May 9. The resolution describes these incidents as a pre-planned conspiracy aimed at creating unrest and disturbance. Both opposition and treasury members expressed their condemnation, stating that while the arrest of political leaders is not unprecedented, it should not justify endangering the country's integrity and damaging public and private properties.
The resolution, moved by MPA Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, highlights that PTI workers and supporters engaged in widespread street protests across the country, resulting in the vandalism and burning of private properties, including sensitive buildings. The resolution further mentions specific instances such as the attack on the Corps Commander's House in Lahore and the burning of the Radio Pakistan building in Peshawar, which resulted in injuries to hundreds of police personnel, including senior officers.
The resolution emphasizes that such tragic incidents have not been witnessed before in the country. It accuses the PTI leadership of provoking armed groups against the security forces in a manner that surpasses even what the enemy has been able to do in the past 75 years. The resolution strongly condemns these violent acts.
Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove points out that when the people of Balochistan have reacted similarly in the past, they were labeled as anti-state. He calls on the government to treat the individuals involved in the May 9 incidents in the same manner. Abdul Khaliq Hazara, the provincial minister for sports and culture, highlights that the Hazara community has faced numerous killings in Balochistan but has never reacted in the manner demonstrated by PTI workers and supporters.
In addition, members of the Balochistan Union of Journalists boycotted the assembly proceedings to protest against the dismissal of journalists from various media houses.
