The Baloch Yakjehti Committee recently organized a one-day Oppressed Peoples Conference titled "From Darkness to Dawn: Shedding light on the suffering and agony of the oppressed." Despite facing numerous challenges and attempts to sabotage the event, the conference successfully brought together various voices advocating for collective struggle and unity against oppression.
The state employed various means of suppression, including the confiscation of necessary equipment for the conference and barring guests from attending. Distinguished figures such as lecturers, journalists, and human rights activists were harassed, and organizers received threats. Despite these obstacles, the committee persevered in its mission.
The oppressed peoples and their leaders displayed resilience by joining the call for unity and peace despite difficulties. The conference was honored by the presence of notable figures who shared their experiences and insights.
Distinguished Attendees:
Munizae Jahangir: Journalist and daughter of Asma Jahangir, she enlightened participants in a panel discussion, emphasizing dedication to humanity and the oppressed.
Advocate Iman Hazir Mazari: A human rights activist and lawyer, she empowered attendees with her experiences and ideas on human rights violations in Pakistan.
Mama Qadeer: A senior activist for the enforcedly disappeared Baloch, he shared cases of disappearances and extrajudicial killings, highlighting the challenges he faces.
Amina Masood: Chairperson of the Defence of Human Rights Organisation, she provided a ray of hope for families of the disappeared, emphasizing the importance of solidarity.
Zubair Sha Agha: Central Member of PTM, he discussed the suffering of Pashtun people and stressed the significance of unity between Baloch and Pashtun in their struggle.
Dr. Shalee Baloch: Representative of Baloch Women Forum, she shared valuable thoughts on the role and challenges of Baloch women in fighting oppression.
The conference also welcomed individuals committed to the cause, such as Veengas, a vocal journalist; Baba Jan and representatives from Gilgit-Baltistan; Tahira Tauqeer representing the people of Kashmir; and Afrasiab Khattak, a senior member of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.
Several passionate individuals, including Mir Muhammad Ali Talpur, Muhammad Hanif, Ayesha Siddiqa, Ammar Ali Jan, and Mehvish Ahmed, joined via video conference, sharing their thoughts and guidance.
The contributions of Professor Manzoor Baloch, Sarang Joyo, and Professor Nida Kirmani were highlighted, along with the supportive messages from others. The conference expressed gratitude to all participants for their dedication, inspiration, and solidarity in the ongoing struggle for justice and human rights.
